CSV-1000 Detects Early Vision Loss in Mild Alzheimer’s
Recently published research from the Complutense University of Madrid showed that contrast sensitivity (CS) testing, as measured by the VectorVision CSV-1000, detected early vision loss in patients with mild Alzheimer’s. The researchers tested 26 Alzheimer’s patients and 28 age-matched normal subjects for visual acuity, color vision, contrast sensitivity and ocular coherence tomography (OCT). Results showed patients had lower contrast sensitivity across all spatial frequencies and that the higher spatial frequency reductions in CS, particularly at 12 and 18 cpd, were the best predictors of the disease. Tritan unspecific errors in color vision were also highly predictive. Both of these predictors correlated well to structural defects noted with OCT.
